Stress is a normal response of the body to changes in the environment or other factors that require the body to change or adjust. Most of the time stress is not bad because it allows us to stay alert and motivated.

Stress is damaging to our health and bodies when we have no break from stress or our response is always urgent. We must manage stress so that it is positive and does not become negative for our bodies.

Some of the symptoms of stress are

  • Difficulty sleeping or waking in the night
  • Headache
  • Upset stomach
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Panic attacks
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

Chronic stress is also associated with other leading health problems that lead to death such as

  • Heart Disease
  • Hypertension
  • Cancer
  • Accidents
  • Suicide

Relieving Stress is healthy and you can do the following

  • Sleep at least 6-8 hrs per night
  • Enjoy music, gardening, cooking, painting or other hobbies that give you joy
  • Exercise and stretch regularly
  • Walk at least 30 min per day
  • Having pets
  • Enjoy a social life outside of work
  • Meditate at least 10-20 min a day or at least take a few deep breaths during the day
  • Learn to recognize symptoms of stress and get help
